Cal-Hypo Pool Shock Calculator
The Industry Standard Fast-Dissolving Pool Shock (68%–73% Potency)
Calcium Hypochlorite is the most popular, fast-acting dry granular shock on the market. It does not contain Cyanuric Acid, preventing stabilizer buildup. Calculate exact bag counts below.
Customize Your Pool Parameters
Adjust pool volume or shock severity to re-calculate instantly.
Granular shock. Fast-dissolving, adds zero CYA stabilizer.
Leaves zero residue, zero calcium, and zero CYA. 100% dissolved instantly.
Includes UV stabilizer. Ideal if your pool has low CYA (<30 ppm).
Avoid cheap big-box shock with low available chlorine (40–50%). Use 68–73% commercial Calcium Hypochlorite or 12.5% Sodium Hypochlorite for maximum algae kill rate.
Important Cal-Hypo Safety & Dosing Rules
• Never pre-dissolve Cal-Hypo in hot water or mix with other chemicals.
• Always add granules to water, never water to granules.
• Note: Cal-Hypo adds a small amount of calcium (approx 0.8 ppm calcium per 1 ppm chlorine).
When to Avoid Calcium Hypochlorite Shock
If your pool water tests above 450 ppm Calcium Hardness, switching to liquid chlorine is recommended. Continued Cal-Hypo additions in hard water can cause scale formation on salt generator cell plates.
