Safe Dissolving Advisory: Pour the salt bags directly along the deep end perimeter of your pool. Turn on your primary filter pump and brush the salt heaps until they are completely dissolved. Maintain circulating currents and keep your salt cell chlorinator turned off for 24 hours while the salt disperses to avoid low/high voltage spikes.

Recommended 99.4% Pure Pool Salt & Salinity Testers

Prevent liner staining and cell scale by using fast-dissolving, high-purity pool-grade evaporated salt.

The Golden Chemical PPM Formula

To raise salinity by 1 PPM requires exactly 8.34 lbs of pure salt per 1,000,000 gallons of water. For a 10,000-gallon pool, every 10 lbs of salt raises salinity by approximately 120 PPM.

To calculate dosage manually: (Target PPM - Current PPM) x (Pool Volume in Gallons) x 8.34 / 1,000,000 = Pounds of Salt required.

Why Digital Meters are Better Than Test Strips

Test strips can carry an error tolerance of ±400 PPM. Using a calibrated digital salinity pen gives ±100 PPM accuracy, preventing unintentional over-salting.

Frequently Asked Questions: Pool Salt PPM Calculator

Salt does not evaporate. The only way to reduce PPM is to partially drain the pool and refill with fresh tap water.
A minor overshoot of 200–300 PPM is harmless. Salt chlorinators have a wide operating tolerance of ±500 PPM and will operate smoothly.
