CRITICAL CHEMICAL SAFETY NOTICE: Swimming pool chemicals (including liquid sodium hypochlorite, trichlor, calcium hypochlorite, and muriatic acid) are hazardous oxidizers and corrosive acids. Improper handling can generate toxic gases, explosions, or chemical burns.

1. Never Mix Chemicals Together

NEVER mix any chemicals together before adding them to your swimming pool water. In particular, NEVER mix acid (such as muriatic acid or dry sodium bisulfate) with chlorine. Combining acid with chlorine immediately produces lethal toxic chlorine gas (Cl2).

2. Add Chemical to Water, Never Water to Chemical

When diluting chemicals in a bucket (such as calcium chloride or dry acid), always fill the bucket with cold water first, then slowly add the dry chemical. Adding water directly onto concentrated dry chemicals can generate violent boiling splatters.

3. Accuracy of Calculations

The calculations provided by MyPoolLab are mathematical approximations based on typical chemical purity and standardized water temperatures. Factors such as high bather load, sunlight intensity, wind evaporation, and tap water mineral variation can alter results. Always test your water with a calibrated test kit before and after adding chemical additions.
